ADC Crisis: ‘No Cause for Alarm,’ David Mark Assures Nigerians
Former Senate President, David Mark, has sought to calm growing concerns over internal disputes within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), assuring Nigerians that the situation does not pose any threat to the party’s stability.
Mark, who currently chairs the party, said there was “no cause for alarm” despite reports of factional disagreements and leadership tussles within the ADC.
He described the developments as part of normal political processes, particularly in a party experiencing rapid growth and increased national attention. The reassurance comes amid heightened speculation over divisions within the opposition party, which has recently emerged as a potential coalition platform for key political figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The internal wrangling had sparked fears among supporters about the party’s cohesion and preparedness. Addressing the concerns, Mark emphasised that disagreements are not unusual in democratic settings and should not be misconstrued as signs of disintegration.
He maintained that the party leadership remains committed to resolving all issues amicably and strengthening internal unity. We remain focused and united. There is no cause for alarm,” he stated, reiterating the party’s dedication to democratic ideals and national development.
Political observers note that the ADC’s rising profile has naturally attracted diverse interests, which may be contributing to the current tensions. However, they also point out that how the party manages the crisis will be crucial in determining its credibility as a strong opposition force. Despite the challenges, Mark expressed confidence in the ADC’s future, assuring members and supporters that efforts are ongoing to consolidate the party’s structure and position it effectively for upcoming political contests.
The unfolding situation is expected to test the party’s leadership as it navigates internal reconciliation while maintaining its growing influence in Nigeria’s political space.
