Northern Governors Mourn Passing of Kebbi Assembly Speaker, Muhammad Zurich

The Northern States Governors’ Forum has expressed deep sorrow following the death of the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru. The Speaker passed away in the early hours of Tuesday while receiving medical treatment in Egypt, marking a significant loss for the state’s political leadership.
Governor Muhammadu Yahaya of Gombe State, who serves as the Chairman of the Forum, issued a condolence message describing the death as a “painful and monumental loss.” He noted that the impact of Zuru’s passing extends beyond Kebbi State, affecting the entire northern region and Nigeria’s broader democratic community.
In a statement released by his Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Uba Misilli, Governor Yahaya praised the late Speaker as a distinguished and accomplished lawmaker. He emphasized that Zuru was a stabilizing force in governance who approached his duties with a rare combination of wisdom, humility, and patriotism.
The Forum highlighted Zuru’s unwavering commitment to the progress of Kebbi State and his dedication to democratic ideals. His leadership style was characterized by selfless service, and his colleagues believe his legacy will endure through the significant contributions he made to legislative development during his tenure.
Governor Yahaya extended his heartfelt sympathies to the Governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris, and the members of the State House of Assembly. He also reached out to the Zuru Emirate Council, acknowledging the deep void the Speaker’s transition has left within his traditional and local constituency.
On behalf of the nineteen Northern governors, the Forum offered prayers for the deceased’s family, asking for strength during this difficult time. They expressed hope that the immediate family would find the fortitude to bear the loss of such a prominent and influential figure in their lives.
The message concluded with a prayer for the repose of the late Speaker’s soul, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and reward his lifetime of service. The governors collectively sought for him to be granted Aljannatul Firdaus as a final reward for his dedication to humanity.
