Governor Monday Okpebholo recently welcomed hundreds of defectors from the PDP, Labour Party, and ADC into the APC during a ceremony in Benin City.Â
This mass movement signals a major shift in Edo State’s political landscape ahead of future elections.
The Governor attributed this influx of new members to his administration’s focus on visible infrastructure and developmental projects. He noted that these tangible achievements are attracting opposition members who want to be part of the state’s progress.
Notable defectors included Lady Uwa Osunbor, the former PDP Woman Leader, along with executive members from the Arewa PDP and various youth wings. Entire local government leadership structures from the LP and PDP also formally joined the ruling party.
APC State Chairman Jarret Tenebe assured the newcomers of full integration, promising them equal rights and privileges within the party. He urged them to work harmoniously with existing members to ensure continued governance success.
Senator Adams Oshiomhole praised Okpebholo’s ability to fund significant projects without relying on heavy borrowing. He remarked that even the families of PDP’s founding fathers are now switching sides to support the APC’s vision.
Looking toward 2027, Okpebholo confidently declared that Edo State is now an APC stronghold. He vowed to deliver 2.5 million votes for President Tinubu, suggesting the President would only need to visit the state to commission projects.
The event concluded with leaders describing the defections as a “political tsunami” driven by a desire for grassroots development. The APC is now positioning itself as the undisputed dominant force in Edo State politics.
