Yobe Youth Coalition Raises N188m for Lawan’s 2027 Governorship Bid
The Coalition of Yobe-East Progressive Youths has raised N188 million to support the 2027 governorship aspiration of former Senate President, Ahmad Lawan.
The coalition’s leader, Dr. Yerima Goni, disclosed this on Monday during a fundraising event in Damaturu, stating that the initiative was designed to promote civic engagement and encourage broader participation of youths and stakeholders in the political process.
Goni said the funds were generated through a combination of pledges, bank transfers, and cash donations, reflecting what he described as growing grassroots support for Lawan’s potential candidacy.
According to him, the effort goes beyond financial contributions, serving as a platform to mobilise young people toward active involvement in governance and leadership. He added that the coalition remains committed to fostering inclusive participation and advocating good governance in Yobe State.
The event, which attracted youths, community leaders, political supporters, and other stakeholders from across the state, highlighted increasing political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Responding, Lawan expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as a sign of responsible citizenship and democratic engagement by the people.
He noted that the donations symbolise grassroots enthusiasm and confidence in leadership, likening the support to a collective investment in the future direction of the state.
Although the former Senate President has not formally declared his intention to contest the governorship election, he indicated openness to the call to serve, suggesting he may consider joining the race if encouraged by the people.
The development comes amid early political alignments and consultations in several states, as stakeholders begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
