Troops Kill Suspected Terrorists, Arrest Kidnap Suspect in Plateau
Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have killed suspected terrorists, arrested a kidnapping suspect and dismantled criminal hideouts during coordinated clearance operations across Plateau State.
The operations, carried out on April 4 and 5 in Wase, Qua’an Pan and Shendam local government areas, targeted locations identified as criminal enclaves linked to recent attacks.
According to the task force spokesperson, Chinonso Oteh, two suspected terrorists were killed during a firefight along the Babangida–Adua road in Wase.
He said troops engaged armed men and overpowered them, leading to the death of two suspects, while others escaped with gunshot wounds. Weapons and ammunition, including a locally made firearm and more than 100 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, were recovered at the scene.
In a separate operation in Namu District of Qua’an Pan, soldiers intercepted four suspected armed men based on intelligence reports and recovered about 100 rounds of ammunition.
Oteh said three of the suspects were later killed during a gun battle after attempting to escape while troops carried out follow-up operations to dismantle their hideout.
In Shendam Local Government Area, troops working with local residents arrested a suspected kidnapper in Gidan Mangoro village. The suspect was linked to a kidnapping incident reported on April 3.
The operations come amid renewed violence in parts of the state, including the recent killings in Angwan Rukuba, Jos, and other affected areas.
Security agencies have since increased deployments and intensified clearance operations across vulnerable communities following assurances by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that measures would be taken to prevent further attacks.
The military said the ongoing operations are part of broader efforts to dismantle armed groups operating in rural and forested areas, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities
Despite the intensified response, concerns remain over recurring attacks, with calls for sustained security measures to restore lasting peace in the state.
