Four Die on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Bus Accident

A tragic lone accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has claimed the lives of four people.

The crash happened on Sunday night around 9:18 p.m. in front of Christopher University when a commercial Toyota Hiace bus veered out of control.

Thirteen people were on board the bus, 11 adult males and two adult females. Four adult males died at the scene, while eight others suffered various injuries. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Mowe Unit Command reached the spot within two minutes of receiving the distress call.

Preliminary findings show that a tyre burst combined with excessive speed caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

The FRSC has stressed that these two factors, tyre failure and over-speeding remain major causes of road crashes and should be avoided by all motorists.

The injured passengers were quickly rushed to Famobis Hospital for treatment. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Idera Morgue, while the crashed bus and passengers’ belongings were handed over to the Motor Traffic Division of the Redeemed Police Station for further investigation.

The FRSC has expressed deep sympathy to the families of the victims and urged all road users to always check their tyres before any journey and obey speed limits. The command promised to continue working towards safer roads and called on the public to support traffic rules to prevent such avoidable losses.
