Tinubu Says Investments Target Citizens’ Prosperity at Ogun Event

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday stated that his administration’s infrastructure projects and economic reforms are aimed at improving the welfare and long-term prosperity of Nigerians.

The President made the remarks in Iperu, Ogun State, during the inauguration of the Gateway Cargo International Airport, constructed by the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun. He also unveiled two aircraft acquired for the newly established Gateway Airline.

Tinubu said the projects reflect confidence in Nigeria’s future, noting that current investments are designed to secure sustainable growth. He added that the airport’s connection to an independent power source highlights ongoing efforts to strengthen the energy sector.

During the visit, the President also launched 1,000 electric bikes, security vehicles and tractors, describing the initiatives as part of efforts to improve mobility, security and agricultural productivity.

He noted that adopting cleaner energy solutions, such as electric transportation, aligns with modern development goals.

The President commended Nigerians for their continued support for the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that ongoing reforms have increased resources available to state governments. He also praised governors for effectively utilising funds for development, singling out Governor Abiodun for aligning state initiatives with the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Tinubu further acknowledged the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for reforms aimed at improving trade facilitation and staff welfare. The President also inaugurated a Customs hub comprising barracks, a training college, a warehouse and a hospital.

In his remarks, Governor Abiodun described the President’s visit as significant, saying it reflects confidence in sub-national governments as drivers of economic growth. He credited federal reforms, including foreign exchange unification and fuel subsidy removal, with improving investor confidence and strengthening public finances.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio said the National Assembly remains central to sustaining democracy, while commending the President for reforms in power and revenue generation. He called for the decentralisation of the Transmission Company of Nigeria to improve electricity supply.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo also commended Tinubu’s leadership, noting the state’s developmental progress over the years.

Several top government officials attended the event, including ministers, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, and state governors from across the country, alongside traditional rulers.
