Nigerian Army Denies Attack on Bishop Kukah’s Residence
The Nigerian Army has refuted reports circulating on social media alleging an armed attack on the residence of Catholic Bishop, Matthew Kukah and the Sokoto Catholic Cathedral.
In a statement released on Saturday by the 8 Division Nigerian Army and Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the military described the claims as false and misleading, stating that no such incident occurred anywhere in Sokoto State.
The Army said its findings showed that the viral Facebook report alleging an attack on the cleric, who heads the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, was entirely fabricated.
It reassured the public that Bishop Kukah remains safe and is currently participating in Easter activities without any disruption.
The military also affirmed that adequate security measures are in place to safeguard the cathedral and residents across the state.
According to the statement, the Army, working alongside other security agencies, remains committed to maintaining peace and protecting lives and property within its operational area.
It added that security has been strengthened to ensure a peaceful Easter celebration across Sokoto State.
The statement was signed by Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 8 Division, on behalf of the command.
