Army Thwarts Kaduna Church Attack, Rescues 31 Abducted Worshippers

Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued 31 civilians abducted during an Easter church service in Ariko Village, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, after responding swiftly to a distress call, military authorities said.

The operation was launched following reports that worshippers were taken by armed attackers during a service at an ECWA church in the community. Soldiers quickly mobilised to the area and, with assistance from local residents, pursued the fleeing assailants.

According to the army, the troops engaged the attackers in a gun battle and overpowered them, forcing the group to abandon the captives. Among those rescued was one injured victim who is currently receiving medical care.

However, five victims were found dead at the scene. The army said indications from blood trails suggest that several of the attackers sustained injuries during the confrontation.

Security forces have since intensified efforts to track down the fleeing suspects, with ongoing operations aimed at rescuing any remaining captives and apprehending those responsible.

Additional troops have been deployed to the area to strengthen security, prevent further attacks, and protect lives and property.

The Nigerian Army said it remains committed to safeguarding citizens and maintaining the country’s territorial integrity in collaboration with other security agencies and local communities. It also urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing operations.
