“Arteta Must Stay”: Rapper Vector Defends Arsenal’s Progress Despite Trophy Drought
Renowned Nigerian hip-hop artist and lifelong Arsenal supporter, Vector, has weighed in on the ongoing debate regarding Mikel Arteta’s future at the Emirates Stadium. Speaking on the heels of Arsenal’s recent exit from the Carabao Cup at the hands of Manchester City, the “King Kong” rapper urged fans and the club board to prioritize long-term stability over “trophy-or-nothing” ultimatums.
Vector drew parallels between the current era and the early years of Arsène Wenger, noting that Arteta has successfully “oiled the machine” and restored a sense of pride and identity to the North London club.
“I don’t think there is any manager that is genuinely managing as well as Arteta right now,” Vector stated. “He has raised the level of the fandom; Arsenal looks like a properly oiled machine. He’s done so much, and that’s the way it felt with Wenger coming in too.”
The rapper, known for his philosophical approach to lyrics, applied a similar lens to football. He admitted that while he wants the team to win every available trophy, his devotion to the club is rooted in the quality of play and individual brilliance rather than just the trophy cabinet.
Addressing the disappointment of the recent Carabao Cup final loss, Vector emphasized that the true test of a great coach is how they lead a team out of a “losing mindset.”
“I’m enjoying watching Arsenal now; it’s been a long time I’ve been able to do that. I don’t see any team as smaller… let them beat any team until they win something. No pressure.”
Vector’s comments come at a time when a section of the Arsenal fanbase is growing restless. Despite three consecutive seasons as Premier League runners-up and record-breaking point totals, the 2020 FA Cup remains Arteta’s only major silverware in six years.
