New Sokoto CP Vows to Eradicate Banditry, Restore Peace

By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa

Commissioner of Police, Hayyatu Shafa officially assumed duty as the Sokoto State Commissioner of Police on March 30, 2026 and pledged to prioritize the fight against banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism to restore peace.

Shafa emphasized that his primary mission is to uphold law and order while protecting the lives and property of all citizens.

The Commissioner acknowledged the devastating toll that insecurity has taken on the state, including numerous deaths and the displacement of communities. He noted that persistent violence has paralyzed economic growth and disrupted the daily lives of residents.

Addressing these deep-seated challenges is his top priority for the command.

To modernize operations, Shafa announced a shift toward proactive, intelligence-led policing. This strategy will utilize advanced technological tools to gather data and anticipate criminal activities before they occur. By focusing on prevention rather than just reaction, the police aim to effectively dismantle criminal networks across the state.

Community cooperation was highlighted as a cornerstone of his new security roadmap.

Shafa urged residents to provide timely and credible information to the police to assist in apprehending criminals. He believes that building mutual trust between the public and law enforcement is essential for successful grassroots security.

The new CP also committed to fostering stronger collaboration with the Nigerian military and other security agencies. He argued that a unified front is necessary to flush out bandits from their rural hideouts and secure the region.

Joint operations and shared intelligence will be key components of this inter-agency partnership.

Shafa assured the public of an increased police presence through intensified patrols and targeted tactical operations. He expressed a firm resolve to create a safe environment where economic and social activities can thrive once again.

The command remains dedicated to ensuring that peace is permanently restored to Sokoto State.
