Kwankwaso’s Defection to ADC Political Game-Changer, Says Party

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reacted to the defection of former Kano State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, describing the development as a significant political shift ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to the party, the move represents more than a routine defection, but rather a broader realignment within the political space as key actors and supporters begin to align with what it described as a credible alternative ahead of the next election cycle.

This was contained in a statement issued by the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, who highlighted the importance of Kwankwaso’s decision in strengthening the party’s growing national presence.

The party welcomed Kwankwaso into its fold, noting that his entry signals a renewed push for political change and a collective effort to present a people-focused alternative.

It added that as part of his move, Kwankwaso has encouraged his supporters and political allies across the country to join the ADC, further boosting what the party described as an emerging coalition.

Abdullahi stated that within 24 hours of the announcement, the party’s online registration platform recorded a notable increase in new members, interpreting this as a sign that more Nigerians are beginning to align with the ADC’s vision.

The event also attracted several prominent political figures, including Senator David Mark, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, members of the National Working Committee, and other notable politicians such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi. Senator Liyel Imoke and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, were also present.

According to the party, the presence of these figures reflects a shared commitment to building a united political front ahead of future elections.

The ADC further stated that Kwankwaso’s decision mirrors the sentiments of many Nigerians who are seeking leadership that better understands and addresses the country’s everyday challenges.

It added that the party is committed to fostering a political platform where citizens can access opportunities, live with dignity and trust in the system, emphasising that meaningful change requires collective effort and deliberate action.
