Kenya Seals 2027 AFCON Hosting Rights with $30M CAF Settlement

Kenya has secured its status as a co-host for AFCON 2027 after officially settling the $30 million hosting obligation required by CAF.

Speaking on the milestone in a statement on Tuesday, the Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Salim Mvurya, said: “This payment reaffirms Kenya’s credibility, readiness, and unwavering commitment to delivering a successful continental tournament.”

He noted that a newly reorganized Multi-Agency Local Organizing Committee has been established by the government.

“We have brought together key players from both the public and private sectors to ensure all critical areas of delivery are covered,” Mvurya added.

Stressing that financial settlements are merely the starting point, the Cabinet Secretary underscored a broader commitment to infrastructure and logistics as the cornerstone of the hosting bid.
