Oyo Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin Joins 2027 Guber Race

The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, has entered the race for the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.

His decision was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Media, Oyetunji Oyekunle, which also confirmed that stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ibarapaland have endorsed him.

The endorsement followed a zonal meeting held in Igboora where party members gathered to review preparations for an upcoming visit by Governor Seyi Makinde.

At the meeting, participants reportedly passed a vote of confidence in the speaker.

Party stakeholders commended Ogundoyin for his leadership style, loyalty to the party, and contributions to maintaining stability within the state legislature.

They also urged him to formally declare his ambition to contest the governorship election and assured him of their backing.

In his response, Ogundoyin, who represents Ibarapa East Constituency, expressed gratitude for the support and described the endorsement as both an honour and a responsibility. He stated his readiness to join the governorship race.

He further noted that the support he received reflects a call for inclusive governance, unity, and sustained development across Oyo State.

The meeting brought together party leaders, government officials and grassroots politicians. Among those in attendance were House of Representatives member Anthony Adepoju, state commissioners Ademola Ojo and Wasilat Adegoke, as well as local government chairmen Kazeem Arogundade of Ibarapa East, Lateef Akorede of Ibarapa North, and Olusola Adeleke of Ibarapa Central.
