The National Sports Commission (NSC) has congratulated Samson Adamu on his appointment as Acting Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), describing the development as a historic milestone for Nigerian sports administration.

In a statement issued by the NSC’s Director of Press, Kehinde Ajayi, and its Chairman, Shehu Dikko, the Commission said Adamu’s elevation marks the first time in over 70 years that a Nigerian will occupy such a high-ranking and influential position within African football’s governing body.

The decision to appoint Adamu was ratified during a meeting held at the Giza Palace Hotel, underscoring what the Commission described as a defining moment for the country’s presence in continental sports leadership.

The NSC noted that Adamu’s appointment reflects Nigeria’s growing influence in global sports administration, adding that his wealth of experience and professionalism have earned him recognition across the African football ecosystem.

“This achievement is not only a personal milestone for Mr. Adamu but also a proud moment for Nigeria. It speaks volumes about the confidence the African football community has in Nigerian administrators,” the statement read.

The Commission further expressed optimism that Adamu would bring his expertise to bear in strengthening football governance and development across the continent.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigerian professionals in attaining leadership roles in international sports bodies, noting that such appointments enhance the country’s reputation and open doors for greater collaboration and opportunities in global sports.

Adamu’s emergence is expected to further position Nigeria as a key player in shaping the future of football administration in Africa, while inspiring a new generation of sports administrators in the country.
