The U.S. Treasury announced that President Donald J. Trump’s signature will appear on future paper currency. This is a historic first, as banknotes typically only feature signatures from the Treasury Secretary and the Treasurer.
The change coincides with the United States’ 250th anniversary, or Semiquincentennial. Officials stated the design honors this milestone and symbolizes a modern era of American prosperity and fiscal strength.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent praised the move as a tribute to the administration’s economic policies. He noted that the signature reflects a “Golden Age” of growth and the continued global dominance of the dollar.
Treasurer Brandon Beach described the President as the architect of a new era of national strength. He asserted that the signature represents the stability and unshakable spirit of the American economy.
The Bureau of Engraving and Printing will now integrate the signature into the design of various denominations. This update will be managed alongside existing security and anti-counterfeiting measures for Federal Reserve Notes.
The Treasury aims to use this update to project confidence to international markets. Linking the currency’s appearance to the administration is intended to signal continuity and economic security to the world.
This marks a major departure from over a century of tradition regarding the aesthetic standards of legal tender. The new series is expected to become a significant item for currency collectors and the public.
More details on the official unveiling will be released as the 2026 celebrations approach. The Treasury views this as a key effort to revitalize national symbols and celebrate American history.
