Kano Deputy Governor Gwarzo Resigns, Move to Join ADC

The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has resigned from office, with confirmation coming on Friday from his spokesperson, Ibrahim Shuaibu.

Shuaibu disclosed that the resignation had been formally submitted but did not provide details regarding the reasons behind the decision.

The development follows a period of strained relations between Gwarzo and the Kano State House of Assembly, which had recently raised concerns over his conduct and performance in office. Lawmakers were said to be examining allegations against him and had begun steps that observers interpreted as possible groundwork for disciplinary measures.

Although the specific issues under review were not fully made public, sources within the Assembly indicated that the matter was already under legislative consideration prior to his exit.

Gwarzo’s resignation also comes at a time of political adjustments within the state, particularly after Governor Abba Yusuf defected to the All Progressives Congress. The move has prompted a series of administrative changes aimed at repositioning the government.

In recent weeks, the governor approved the removal of the Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, and dismissed the Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry, Shehu Wada Sagagi, as part of broader restructuring efforts.

Political analysts suggest that these actions reflect attempts by the administration to stabilise its position under a new political alignment while improving governance efficiency.

With the deputy governor’s resignation now confirmed, attention is expected to shift to the constitutional process of appointing a replacement, which will require approval from the state legislature.

Observers note that the development could further influence the evolving political landscape in Kano as stakeholders position themselves ahead of future electoral activities.
