Amotekun Rescues Abducted Nurses, Villagers in Ondo

By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa

Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, have successfully rescued three nurses who were kidnapped from a Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Akure. The rescue operation took place early Saturday morning following a swift response by the security outfit.

The health workers were abducted around 2:00 a.m. when armed bandits stormed the government-owned facility in the Oke Ijebu area.

Witnesses reported that the attackers arrived in a bus and forcefully entered the premises, taking the nurses away while others narrowly escaped.

In addition to the nurses, Amotekun commander Akogun Adetunji Adeleye confirmed the rescue of a 45-year-old man and his 15-year-old son. The pair had been snatched by gunmen at Pelebe community along Oda Road on Friday evening.

Adeleye detailed the intense operation, stating, “The man and his son were kidnapped between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. yesterday (Friday). The victims were, however, rescued by our men at about 1:00 a.m. after a heavy confrontation with the kidnappers.”

Following the successful recovery of the father and son, the team continued their efforts to track the health workers.

Adeleye announced, “The three health workers earlier abducted have also been rescued at about 4:30 a.m. and are currently receiving treatment at the Amotekun health facility.”

Reports indicate the bandits had packed the victims into a bus before fleeing toward an unknown destination. However, the rapid intervention of the Amotekun corps prevented the kidnappers from escaping further into the bush with their captives.

The Commander reassured the public that the state government remains committed to protecting lives and property. He emphasized that security agencies are working tirelessly to maintain peace and order within the capital and surrounding communities.

Adeleye urged residents to assist by providing timely information, stressing that security is a collective responsibility. He noted that public cooperation is essential to enhancing the overall safety and effectiveness of security operations across Ondo State.
