Golf legend Tiger Woods was arrested for DUI following a rollover crash in Florida on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred near his Jupiter Island home when Woods’ Land Rover clipped a truck’s trailer while speeding. Miraculously, Woods was able to crawl out of the wreckage uninjured, and no other serious injuries were reported.
Police stated that Woods was traveling well above the 30 mph limit while attempting to overtake a slow-moving pressure-cleaning truck. The collision caused his SUV to tip onto its side and slide a significant distance. Investigators noted the vehicle sustained heavy damage, but the golfer remained cooperative throughout the initial roadside contact.
At the scene, responding officers described Woods as “lethargic” and showing signs of impairment. Although Woods cited his history of surgeries and physical injuries as a factor in his movement, investigators conducted roadside sobriety tests. They determined there was sufficient evidence of impairment to take him into custody.
A breathalyzer test at the jail returned a result of “0.00,” proving that alcohol was not involved in the crash. However, Woods refused to provide a urine sample for further toxicology screening. Due to this refusal, he was formally charged with DUI, property damage, and refusing to submit to a lawful test.
Authorities suspect Woods may have been impaired by medication rather than alcohol. Because he exercised his right to refuse testing, the specific substance involved may never be legally confirmed. Under Florida law, he was required to be held in jail for eight hours before being eligible for release.
This marks the fourth major vehicle incident for the 15-time major winner and his second DUI arrest. In 2017, he was found asleep at the wheel due to a reaction to prescription painkillers. He also survived a high-speed crash in 2021 that resulted in severe leg injuries and years of rehabilitation.
The arrest comes at a critical time as Woods was preparing for the upcoming Masters Tournament. He had recently competed in his indoor TGL league and expressed optimism about his physical fitness for Augusta National.
This latest setback now places his participation in the prestigious event in serious doubt.
Public figures, including Donald Trump, have expressed concern following the news of the golfer’s latest legal trouble. While the charges are currently classified as misdemeanors, the incident adds to a long history of personal and physical struggles.
The golfing world now awaits further details on his health and legal standing.
