Ogun Central Will Resist Imposition of Governorship Candidate, PDP Chieftain Warns

A prominent leader in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has warned against any attempt to impose a candidate for the governorship position in Ogun Central.

He made it clear that the people of the zone will not accept any forced choice from party leaders or outsiders. According to him, the next governor from the zone must emerge through a fair and open process that respects the wishes of party members and the public.

The PDP chieftain stressed that Ogun Central has capable and experienced politicians who can lead the state well. He said the zone has been patient and loyal within the party, and now expects to be allowed to choose its own candidate without interference.

Imposing anyone, he warned, could lead to serious internal crisis and weaken the party’s chances in future elections.

He reminded party faithful that democracy inside the PDP must start from the grassroots. Forcing a candidate would go against the spirit of fairness and could cause many members to lose trust in the leadership.

The chieftain urged all stakeholders to allow a transparent primary election where aspirants can compete freely and the best person wins the ticket.

This strong position reflects growing tension within the PDP in Ogun State as preparations for the next governorship race begin. Many people in Ogun Central feel it is their turn to produce the governor after years of power rotating among other zones.

The warning is meant to send a message that any form of imposition will be strongly resisted.

The PDP leader called on the national and state executives to listen to the voice of the people and avoid actions that could divide the party. He expressed confidence that if the process is free and fair, the PDP can present a strong candidate capable of winning the election and delivering good governance to the state.

As political activities increase ahead of the polls, this statement highlights the importance of internal democracy in political parties.

Many observers believe how the PDP handles this issue in Ogun Central could affect its overall strength and unity in the state. The coming months will show whether the party listens to such warnings or faces internal battles.
