Vice President Shettima reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to human rights and International Humanitarian Laws.
He stated that the government is integrating these legal principles into military operations despite ongoing security challenges.
“The Tinubu administration is dedicated to upholding constitutional rights and strengthening legal frameworks. A primary focus is ensuring civilian protection remains a top priority during all conflict situations and security interventions.
To combat insecurity, the government is utilizing a dual approach of kinetic and non-kinetic strategies. Shettima identified insecurity as the greatest threat to development, requiring both military force and social interventions.
Extensive training is being provided to security personnel regarding the universal application of humanitarian laws. This ensures military actions align with international standards while forces work to restore order and public safety.
“The administration is also domesticating international treaties like the African Union Kampala Convention. This effort aims to establish a specific legal structure to improve protection and assistance for Internally Displaced Persons,” he said.
Shettima expressed optimism that these measures will eventually bring insecurity under control. He emphasized that national unity and respect for human rights are essential foundations for achieving lasting peace in Nigeria.
