APC Breaks Opposition Strongholds, Now Controls Six Key Territories

Rachel Akper

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has made significant political gains, taking control of six of the eight territories where it failed to secure 25 per cent of the vote in the 2023 presidential election.

This shift marks a major realignment in the South-South and South-East regions. Governors from Edo, Delta, and Enugu have joined the ruling party, strengthening its presence, while the party also retained control of Imo, Ebonyi, and the Federal Capital Territory. Abia and Anambra remain outside APC’s control, held by the Labour Party and APGA, respectively.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) notes that these developments underscore APC’s growing influence ahead of the 2026 elections, signaling a potentially transformative electoral landscape.
