ICPC to Arraign Nasir El-Rufai in Kaduna

The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, ICPC is set to arraign former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai at the Federal High Court today.Â
This follows weeks of detention and mounting public pressure for his prosecution.
The suit, registered as FHC/KD/73/2026, charges El-Rufai and Joel Adoga with illegal conversion of public property. The defendants also face multiple counts related to money laundering.
A separate state-level case, KDH/KAD/ICPC/01/26, has been filed against El-Rufai and Amadu Sule. These charges focus on fraud and the conferment of undue advantages.
ICPC spokesperson John Odey confirmed that the charges were filed on March 18 and served to the former governor. The commission maintains it is following strict due process.
El-Rufai has been in ICPC custody since February 18, following a re-arrest after his initial release by the EFCC. His detention sparked protests from family and political allies.
Beyond financial crimes, the DSS has also filed three-count cybercrime charges against him. These relate to allegations of unauthorized phone-tapping involving the National Security Adviser.
While the federal arraignment occurs today, the state court date remains unannounced. El-Rufai’s legal team continues to dismiss the charges as being politically motivated.
