PDP Caretaker Committee Begins Sale of Nomination Forms for March Convention
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caretaker leadership backed by Nyesom Wike has commenced the sale of nomination forms for its forthcoming national convention scheduled for March 29 and 30, 2026.
The decision was reached on Monday at the party’s 107th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja, where members assessed preparations and outlined timelines for the exercise.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the party directed aspirants to comply with established procedures and deadlines. The document was jointly signed by the Chairman of the National Caretaker Working Committee, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and Acting National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu.
The NEC also confirmed that the zoning arrangement for national offices would remain in effect, stating that it would guide the allocation of positions at the convention in line with the party’s tradition of regional balance.
Party leaders reiterated their commitment to delivering a credible and transparent convention, mandating relevant committees to coordinate activities effectively under the theme, ‘A Convention of Inclusiveness, Unity and Renewal.’
They further emphasised party supremacy and called on members to remain united and disciplined in pursuit of collective goals.
The development comes amid an ongoing leadership dispute within the PDP. The crisis dates back to November 2025, when a convention in Ibadan produced a National Working Committee led by Kabiru Turaki, with the backing of PDP governors.
However, a rival faction later constituted a 13-member caretaker committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, assigning it a 60-day mandate to manage party affairs.
Tensions escalated when both factions attempted to hold meetings at the party’s national secretariat on November 18, prompting intervention by the Nigeria Police, which sealed the premises.
Subsequent legal proceedings culminated in a ruling by the Court of Appeal on March 9, 2026, which invalidated the Ibadan convention, citing violations of the Electoral Act, the Nigerian Constitution, and the party’s constitution.
