Ogun Women Receive N35m Grants, Endorse Tinubu’s Re-election
Ogun State women were on Monday beneficiaries of a N35 million cash grant initiative aimed at strengthening livelihoods and empowering women across the state.
Announcing the disbursement during the 2026 International Women’s Day celebration at the Ojude Oba Pavilion in Ijebu Ode, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Adijat Adeleye, said 50 women received N200,000 each, while 500 others received N50,000 each.
The event was attended by the wife of the governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun; Deputy Governor Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele; two former deputy governors, Alhaja Salmot Badru and Chief Yetunde Onanuga; and the state’s first female Speaker, Mrs. Titi Oseni, among other political and community leaders.
During the ceremony, women declared their support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election and for Governor Dapo Abiodun’s planned contest for the Ogun East senatorial seat in 2027, following the completion of his second term.
Adeleye described the occasion as historic, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Ogun State’s creation, and praised the role of women over the decades in advancing society, commerce, and governance. She also paid tribute to pioneering figures such as the late Chief Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, Bola Kuforiji-Olubi, Iyalode Alaba Lawson, Chief Mrs. Adenike Ebun Oyagbola, and Mrs. Lucia Onabanjo.
Highlighting the 2026 International Women’s Day theme, “Give to Gain,” Adeleye emphasized that sustained progress requires investment, service, and support for one another, adding that women must remain united to continue rising in leadership and enterprise.
The Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, reinforced the call for women to support Tinubu’s second-term bid and Abiodun’s future political plans. She encouraged active female participation in governance and decision-making to enhance women’s representation in politics.
According to Adeleye, the grant initiative complements Governor Abiodun’s ongoing commitment to women’s empowerment, aiming to positively impact the livelihoods of beneficiaries across the state.
