Calls for Leadership Change Grow in Delta Ahead of 2027 Elections
Calls for a change in leadership in Delta State have intensified ahead of the 2027 elections, with supporters of Great Ovedje Ogboru advocating his candidacy as a solution to persistent poverty and underdevelopment despite the state’s oil wealth.
The advocates expressed concern over what they described as widespread hardship in the state, noting that many residents continue to face economic challenges despite significant revenues from oil and gas and increased federal allocations.
They attributed the situation to governance shortcomings, arguing that existing resources have not translated into improved living conditions for citizens.
Promoting Ogboru as a viable alternative, the group said his leadership would prioritise job creation, economic diversification, and policies aimed at boosting individual income opportunities, particularly for youths.
They also outlined plans centred on industrial growth, with an emphasis on manufacturing and investment promotion to position Delta State as a hub for business activities and attract foreign direct investment.
In the agricultural sector, the supporters said Ogboru would encourage farmers to form cooperative societies to improve production and facilitate access to export opportunities through relevant government agencies.
The group further stated that his proposed administration would focus on social inclusion, including expanded opportunities for women and programmes aimed at empowering vulnerable groups.
They urged residents to participate actively in the electoral process, stressing the importance of voting without intimidation or coercion.
The appeal comes amid ongoing political alignments and endorsements in the state as stakeholders begin to position themselves ahead of the next election cycle.
