Troops Kill Scores of Bandits in Clashes with Turji’s Network
Troops of the Nigerian Armed Forces have killed several bandits in renewed operations targeting the network of notorious gang leader Bello Turji across parts of northwest Nigeria.
The latest offensives, carried out in Zamfara and Sokoto states, are part of an intensified military campaign aimed at dismantling armed groups linked to Turji, who has been blamed for persistent attacks in the region.
Military sources said the operations combined ground assaults, intelligence-led raids, and precision airstrikes, leading to the elimination of multiple fighters and senior commanders within the group.
In one of the recent operations conducted in January 2025, troops reportedly killed 24 bandits, including seven top commanders, during a raid on Gebe village in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The ongoing crackdown is part of broader efforts to curb banditry, kidnapping, and violent attacks that have affected communities in the northwest, particularly in Zamfara, Sokoto, and parts of Niger State.
Authorities say sustained military pressure has forced Turji and his loyalists into retreat, as security forces continue to pursue him with the aim of capturing or neutralising the fugitive leader.
The military has reiterated its commitment to restoring security in the region, assuring residents that operations will continue until criminal networks are dismantled.
