Three Siblings Die in Kano as Authorities Probe Suspected Disease
Residents of Fagge Local Government Area in Kano State are in distress following the deaths of three underage siblings from an illness that has yet to be identified.
The children—aged 15, 8, and 4—reportedly fell ill with high fever that worsened rapidly, leading to their deaths within a short period of time, according to family accounts.
An uncle to the victims, Muhammadu Mado, said the youngest child, Ikram Yunusa, was the first to show symptoms and died shortly after being taken to a hospital. He added that her elder sister, Khadija Mannir, later died within hours of being discharged from the Infectious Disease Hospital, while the third sibling, Halima Mannir, also succumbed after developing similar symptoms.
The sudden and rapid progression of the illness has raised concerns among residents in the Layin Yan Katifa area, where many families have expressed fear and uncertainty over the cause of the deaths.
In response, health authorities in Kano State have begun investigations into the incident. Officials from the state Ministry of Health visited the affected household to assess the situation and collect environmental samples aimed at determining the source of the illness.
A spokesperson for the ministry, Abubakar Nabulisi, confirmed that the matter is under investigation and stated that findings will be made public once the process is completed.
Residents have continued to call for swift identification of the cause to prevent further loss of lives, while authorities maintain that efforts are ongoing to contain any potential outbreak.
Meanwhile, the situation has heightened anxiety in the community, with many households taking precautionary measures as they await official clarification on the nature of the illness.
