Houthis Declare Full Support for Iran, Threaten Attacks on U.S., Israeli Targets

By 𝔸bdulrazak Tomiwa

The Yemen-based Houthi rebels have declared full support for Iran amid escalating conflict with the United States and Israel. In a statement on March 20, 2026, the group’s leadership confirmed they are prepared to stand by the Islamic Republic. This move follows weeks of intensified military exchanges across the Middle East.

The group characterized recent U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iranian interests as “barbaric aggression.” They stated that their alliance with Tehran is a “religious and moral duty” aimed at resisting Western and Israeli influence. This public stance marks a significant escalation in the group’s regional rhetoric.

Warning of future action, the Houthis signaled a likely resumption of their own offensive operations. Senior officials indicated that plans are already underway to restart missile and drone strikes. These attacks are expected to target both Israeli territory and critical international shipping lanes.

The conflict intensified after reported strikes on Iranian energy and military infrastructure, followed by Iranian retaliatory barrages against U.S. bases. The Houthis’ involvement adds a dangerous second front to the war. This development poses a direct threat to stability in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

Beyond military threats, the Houthis called for mass demonstrations across Yemen to show solidarity with the Iranian people. They urged other Islamic nations to join their cause and demand the expulsion of U.S. forces from the region. The group views the American military presence as a direct threat to sovereign security.

The international community has expressed deep concern, as the Houthi threat had previously been tempered by a fragile ceasefire. Analysts warn that renewed maritime attacks could disrupt global supply chains and drive energy prices higher. Oil prices have already seen a significant surge due to the ongoing hostilities.

The Houthis have framed the current situation as an existential struggle for the “Axis of Resistance.” With military assets reportedly being moved into strike positions, the region remains on high alert.

The declaration solidifies the group’s role as a primary proxy in the widening conflict between Iran and the West.
