Gas Tanker Fire on Lekki-Epe Expressway Disrupts Lagos Power Supply
Power supply has been disrupted across several parts of Lagos after a fire outbreak damaged critical electricity infrastructure along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
The Eko Electricity Distribution Company confirmed on Saturday that the outage was caused by a collision involving a vehicle and a stationary gas tanker, which triggered a fire that affected major power lines.
According to the company, the blaze caused extensive damage to the Ibeju and Medallion 33kV feeders, including conductors and overhead equipment essential for electricity distribution in the affected areas.
Technical teams have since been deployed to the site and are working to replace the damaged components and restore supply as quickly as possible.
The company apologised to customers for the disruption, describing the incident as unforeseen.
Areas impacted by the outage include communities served by the Medallion feeder such as Sangotedo, Awoyaya, Eputu, and Onisan as well as locations along the Ibeju 33kV feeder, including Majek, Fidiso, and Kajola.
The development follows a separate gas explosion reported in the Ajah area of Lagos, where two people were confirmed dead and several properties destroyed after a tanker collided with a tipper truck near Tera Ahmed bus stop in Sangotedo.
Residents in the affected communities have been advised to remain cautious while repair work continues, as efforts intensify to safely restore electricity to homes and businesses.
