Zulum Pledges to Pay Medical Bills of 110 Maiduguri Boko Haram Blast Victims
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has pledged to pay the medical expenses of 110 victims injured in recent bomb explosions linked to Boko Haram attacks across parts of Maiduguri metropolis.
The victims sustained varying injuries, including fractures and severe burns, during the incidents. Zulum made the pledge on Thursday night while visiting patients receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) and the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri.
Describing the attacks as a tragic event, the governor assured residents that such incidents would not recur, adding that the state had made significant progress in tackling insurgency. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to preventing a return to insecurity.
Zulum, who was away performing the lesser hajj in Saudi Arabia when the explosions occurred, expressed sympathy with families of those who lost their lives and assured them of government support. He also stated that the state government would fully take responsibility for the treatment of all injured victims.
He commended Vice President Kashim Shettima for representing the federal government during a visit to the victims, describing the gesture as a sign of strong leadership.
He also acknowledged the efforts of security chiefs who have visited the state in response to the situation, urging residents to remain calm as coordinated efforts continue to address insecurity.
Providing an update on casualties, the Director of the UMTH Trauma Centre, Dr. Bukar Bunu, said the facility received a total of 110 patients. He noted that 22 were brought in dead, six later died, while 82 were admitted. Of those admitted, 32 have been discharged after treatment, and 50 remain under medical care.
The governor was accompanied on the visit by several political leaders and government officials, including lawmakers and members of the state executive council.
