Utah Mom Guilty of Poisoning Husband with Fentanyl After Writing Grief Book for Kids
A woman from Utah has been found guilty of murdering her husband by poisoning him. Kouri Richins was convicted of giving her husband, Eric Richins, a deadly dose of fentanyl mixed into a cocktail he drank at their home near Park City in March 2022.
Prosecutors said she used five times the amount needed to kill him.
Court details showed she was deep in debt, owing about $4.5 million. She had quietly taken out large life insurance policies on her husband and expected to receive millions after his death. These money problems were seen as a key reason behind the crime.
Months after the killing, Kouri self-published a children’s book to help kids cope with losing a parent. The book was meant to guide children through grief, but it later became part of the case against her.
Prosecutors pointed to it as strange and suspicious behavior after what she had done.
The trial focused on how the poisoning happened and the planning behind it. Evidence showed it was a cold and calculated act. After hearing all the facts, the jury decided she was guilty of murder.
Kouri now faces a possible sentence of 25 years to life in prison. The case has shocked many because of the mix of family life, big money troubles, and the unusual children’s book she wrote soon after the death.
This story highlights a tragic and complicated crime that ended in a guilty verdict. It serves as a reminder of how serious actions driven by debt and greed can destroy lives and families.
