NIPOST Raises the Alarm over Encroachment on its Lands, Property in Abia

The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has raised an alarm over increasing encroachment on its properties across Abia State.
State Postal Manager, Mrs. Winifred Amadi, voiced these concerns during a visit to Governor Alex Otti, noting that illegal land grabbing has become a major challenge.
Amadi specifically highlighted a crisis in the Item community of Bende LGA, where individuals allegedly chased away staff and seized the facility. This forceful takeover has halted postal operations in the area, preventing NIPOST from delivering essential services to local residents.
The agency appealed for the state government’s immediate intervention to recover these federal assets and stop further trespassing.
Mrs. Amadi expressed confidence that the governor’s support would help secure NIPOST perimeters and ensure the safety of personnel throughout the state.
Governor Alex Otti condemned the encroachment as an act of illegality, asserting that his administration would not tolerate the unlawful occupation of government property. He emphasized that the rule of law must prevail and pledged his commitment to protecting federal investments.
To resolve the matter, the Governor directed the Commissioners for Lands and Local Government Affairs to conduct a full survey of all NIPOST properties. This audit is intended to identify exact boundaries and provide a clear inventory of assets across all 17 local government areas.
Regarding the conflict in Bende LGA, Otti demanded a swift resolution and requested a detailed list of all NIPOST locations to facilitate executive action. He noted that a clear record is vital for the government to provide security and prevent future disputes.
