Makinde, Alaafin Urge Prayers, Moral Rebirth as Ramadan Ends
As the 2026 Ramadan season concludes, Seyi Makinde and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, have extended Eid-el-Fitr greetings to Muslims in Oyo State and across Nigeria, urging reflection, prayer, and renewed commitment to moral values.
In separate messages released on Thursday in Ibadan, Governor Makinde commended Muslim faithful for their discipline, sacrifice and devotion throughout the 30-day fasting period.
He encouraged them to sustain the spiritual lessons of Ramadan by seeking divine guidance and offering prayers for the peace and progress of both the state and the nation.
The governor also advised residents to remain vigilant during the festive period, calling on them to be security-conscious and report any suspicious activities to relevant authorities.
In his message, the Alaafin raised concerns over what he described as a decline in moral standards in the country. He warned that without a strong ethical foundation, Nigeria’s social, economic, and political development could face serious setbacks.
The monarch stressed that national progress depends not only on intellectual capacity and technical advancement but also on core values such as honesty, integrity, responsibility, and religious tolerance. He noted that many of the country’s current challenges are linked to the erosion of these principles.
According to him, the growing acceptance of violence, insecurity, and social division reflects a weakening sense of collective responsibility among citizens.
He therefore urged Muslims to uphold the teachings of Ramadan by demonstrating love, charity, and submission to the will of God in their daily lives. He added that strengthening God-consciousness and accountability would help address corruption, insecurity, and mistrust within society.
The Alaafin further called for sustained efforts to rebuild moral consciousness, emphasizing that such values are essential for national unity and long-term development.
