Dagogo Urges Civic Responsibility, Value-Driven Leadership Ahead of 2027 Elections

By Momodu Favour

Former federal lawmaker, Farah Dagogo has called on Nigerians to embrace renewed civic responsibility and deepen their participation in the democratic process as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.

Dagogo, who represented Degema/Bonny Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives during the 9th National Assembly, made the appeal in a goodwill message to mark the concurrent observance of Eid al-Fitr and Lent.

In a statement issued in Port Harcourt by his media aide, Ibrahim Lawal, the former governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party urged citizens to take an active role in shaping the nation’s future by electing leaders committed to people-oriented policies and sustainable national development.

He stressed that the responsibility of building a better Nigeria rests not only on those seeking office but also on voters, who must make informed and principled choices at the polls.

According to Dagogo, the rare overlap of Ramadan and Lent at the onset of the electoral cycle carries both symbolic and spiritual significance for the country.

“I celebrate with Muslims and Christians on this rare convergence of Ramadan and Lent at the beginning of an election cycle. It underscores a profound spiritual dimension that should guide our national choices,” he said.

He noted that the alignment of the two sacred observances provides a unique opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on shared moral values such as honesty, sacrifice, discipline, and accountability, and to apply them in the political sphere.

Dagogo also extended warm greetings to Muslim and Christian faithful across the country, commending their devotion, resilience, and commitment to spiritual purification during the fasting periods.

He further called for unity across religious and ethnic divides, emphasizing that national progress can only be achieved when citizens collectively prioritize the common good over sectional interests.

The former lawmaker added that as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of 2027, Nigerians must remain vigilant, engaged, and committed to democratic ideals that promote good governance and improved livelihoods.

Observers say his remarks reflect a growing push among political stakeholders for increased voter awareness and early civic engagement, as conversations around leadership and accountability continue to shape the national discourse.
