UNIEC Unveils Plan for ‘Great Igbo Achievers Book of Records’

The United Igbo Elders Council Worldwide on Monday announced plans to publish a comprehensive historical record documenting the achievements of Igbo individuals across generations.

The body said the publication, titled The Great Igbo Achievers Book of Records Global Heritage Edition, is designed as a permanent archive to preserve and showcase the contributions of Ndigbo in various fields of human endeavour.

In a statement issued by its Director General, His Lordship Alpha Justice Ikpeama, the council described the initiative as a landmark cultural project aimed at redefining how Igbo accomplishments are recorded and celebrated globally.

According to the council, the book will cover a broad range of sectors including governance, entrepreneurship, science and technology, healthcare, education, arts and culture, law, philanthropy and diaspora leadership.

UNIEC noted that beyond serving as a record, the publication is intended to inspire excellence among Igbo people while also functioning as a scholarly resource for researchers, historians and students interested in the role of Ndigbo in global development.

A blueprint released by the project’s Central Organising Committee indicated that the book will open with ceremonial sections highlighting Igbo heritage, including symbolic invocations, institutional endorsements, and a formal proclamation establishing it as a lasting global archive.

At the centre of the publication is a feature titled “The 50 Greatest Igbo Achievers in History,” which will spotlight individuals whose contributions have significantly shaped Igbo society and impacted the wider world.

Other sections include the Roll of Global Igbo Legends and the Hall of Igbo Immortals, aimed at recognising notable figures whose legacies continue to influence leadership, innovation, and cultural identity.

The council added that the book will also contain detailed profiles of distinguished Igbo personalities, outlining their biographies, achievements, honours and legacy contributions.

To support the project, UNIEC disclosed plans to raise about N1 billion through corporate sponsorships, institutional partnerships, endowments, and goodwill contributions.

It also revealed that a major unveiling event, the Great Igbo Achievers Legacy Summit, is being planned, with participation expected from government officials, traditional leaders, corporate stakeholders, scholars and members of the Igbo diaspora.

The summit will feature the official presentation of the publication, conferment of legacy awards, and induction of founding patrons supporting the initiative.

The council expressed optimism that the project would evolve into a lasting cultural institution, strengthening unity and identity among Igbo communities while encouraging younger generations to strive for excellence.

UNIEC added that the Book of Records is expected to stand as one of the most extensive efforts to document and preserve the historical contributions of the Igbo people.
