Saudi Arabia Declares Friday for Eid al-Fitr Celebration

Saudi Arabia has announced that the Eid al-Fitr celebration marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan will commence on Friday, following the completion of 30 days of fasting.

According to a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency, the decision was made by the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia after confirming that Thursday would be the final day of Ramadan.

“The Supreme Court has decided that tomorrow, Thursday, is the completion of the 30th day of the month of Ramadan, and that Friday is the day of the Blessed Eid al-Fitr,” the statement said.

Eid al-Fitr, a major Islamic festival, is observed at the end of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

The exact timing is determined by the sighting of the crescent moon, in line with Islamic tradition.

During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, abstaining from food, drink, and other physical needs, as part of one of the core obligations of Islam. The period is also marked by increased prayers and acts of charity.

Saudi Arabia, which hosts Islam’s holiest sites including the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, sees widespread observance of the fasting period each year.

This year’s Ramadan observance comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, following the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, which has affected parts of the region.
