The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, has arrested six suspected vandals allegedly involved in the illegal removal and theft of railway sleepers in Kiru Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects were apprehended during a coordinated operation by NSCDC operatives following credible intelligence on the activities of criminal elements targeting railway infrastructure in the area.
According to the command, the arrests were made as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard critical national assets and curb acts of vandalism that threaten public safety and economic development.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had been tampering with railway installations, removing sleepers believed to be used in the construction and stability of rail tracks. Authorities noted that such acts could endanger lives and disrupt rail transportation services if left unchecked.
The NSCDC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting infrastructure across the state, warning that anyone found sabotaging public assets would face the full weight of the law.
The command also urged residents of Kiru and surrounding communities to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies, emphasizing that community cooperation is vital in tackling vandalism and other criminal acts.
The suspects are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
