Eid-el-Fitr: NSCDC Orders Massive Deployment to Protect Public Spaces
The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has ordered the deployment of over 53,500 personnel across the country to ensure security during the upcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
The deployment, which includes tactical units and intelligence operatives, will cover all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, as part of measures to safeguard critical national assets and maintain public order during the festive period.
According to a statement, the directive mandates zonal commanders, state commandants, and other senior officers to intensify security operations within their jurisdictions.
They have been tasked with identifying and securing high-risk locations such as shopping centres, Eid prayer grounds, mosques, churches, motor parks, and recreational facilities, using both uniformed and undercover personnel.
Audi also emphasised the need for increased surveillance and routine patrols, as well as stronger collaboration with other security agencies through intelligence sharing and rapid response to emergencies.
“We will continue to collaborate and work in synergy with sister security agencies to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free Eid festive season,” he said, while urging parents to caution their children against engaging in activities that could disrupt public peace.
Specialised units of the corps, including the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad, crack squad, mining marshals, special female squad, and special forces, have been placed on high alert to respond to any emerging threats.
The NSCDC boss further called on members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
The deployment is part of broader efforts by authorities to strengthen nationwide security during the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
