Wike Orders Demolition of Illegal Abuja Estate

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike ordered the demolition of an unauthorized housing estate in Abuja’s Guzape district.

The project violated the city’s master plan by building on land specifically earmarked for a park. Wike vowed to revoke all illegal approvals to protect the capital’s original layout.

The Minister insisted that land use regulations must be followed without exception. Condemning the developer’s actions, he stated, “This place was given for Park and Recreation, not for the development of an estate it is a clear violation. We will not allow that.”

Wike warned that no developer is powerful enough to bypass government oversight or wait out his administration. Emphasizing his resolve to uphold the law, he noted, “People think government will come and go and they will continue what they are doing It does not matter who is involved.”

The Minister also blamed internal collaborators for enabling such illegal constructions. Comparing the situation to a crime, he explained, “An armed robber cannot operate without someone linking him. In some cases, civil servants may be involved, but that will not stop us.”

The FCT Administration has already funded the demolition through the Department of Development Control to ensure the site is cleared. Wike reaffirmed that his priority is keeping all development within the Federal Capital Development Authority’s strict regulatory framework.

Finally, Wike inspected several infrastructure projects, including the N16 road and the Karsana-Kubwa link, ahead of President Tinubu’s third anniversary. He expressed satisfaction with the progress of these roads, which are designed to improve connectivity across the capital.
