Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 159 Battalion successfully neutralized several Boko Haram terrorists on March 14 following a failed ambush in the Yunusari Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The encounter took place near Mairari village as the soldiers were returning from a routine patrol.
The insurgents targeted the troops along the Longlari–Kanama road at approximately 5:23 p.m., attempting to catch the convoy off-guard. However, the soldiers of B Company responded swiftly, engaging the attackers with heavy and disciplined firepower.
Faced with the military’s superior strength, the remaining terrorists were forced to retreat. While several insurgents were killed during the exchange, others fled into the surrounding forest to escape the tactical onslaught.
Immediately following the engagement, the Nigerian Army launched an exploitation operation in the general area. Troops are currently scouring the terrain to track down and eliminate the fleeing remnants of the terrorist group.
This successful defense highlights the continued vigilance and combat readiness of the forces stationed in the North-East. Security remains heightened along the Kanama axis as the military continues its mission to stabilize the region.
