Kuwait Arrests 16 Over Alleged Hezbollah-Linked Terror Cell

By Momodu Favour

Kuwaiti authorities have arrested 16 individuals over their alleged involvement in a Hezbollah-affiliated terror cell accused of plotting to destabilise the country and undermine public order.

According to security sources, those arrested include 14 Kuwaiti citizens and two Lebanese nationals. The suspects are believed to be part of an organised network planning coordinated operations aimed at spreading chaos within the Gulf state.

Officials said the cell was successfully dismantled following a security operation, with authorities recovering a cache of weapons and operational materials. Items seized include firearms, ammunition, drones, and communication equipment believed to have been used in planning and coordinating the alleged activities.

Investigators also confiscated other materials linked to the group’s operations, as authorities continue to examine the full scope of the network and its possible external connections.

The arrests mark a significant move by Kuwait’s security agencies in countering extremist threats and maintaining internal stability. While officials have not disclosed specific details about the planned attacks, they emphasised that the operation prevented potential threats to national security.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing, with efforts focused on uncovering additional collaborators and determining the extent of the group’s ties to external organisations.

Kuwait has maintained a firm stance against terrorism and has in recent years intensified efforts to monitor and dismantle extremist networks operating within or linked to the country.
