Bauchi Governor, Bala Mohammed is expected to join the APC this Tuesday. This move follows strategic negotiations and meetings with President Bola Tinubu.
The APC has reportedly offered Mohammed a 60/40 power-sharing deal and a Senate ticket. This defection would bring the total number of APC governors to 32.
A primary sticking point remains Mohammed’s demand to nominate his successor. President Tinubu, however, reportedly prefers the party leadership to maintain control over the state structure.
Potential contenders for the governorship have already emerged from the state. These include Ministers Ali Pate and Yusuf Tuggar, along with oil executive Bala Wunti.
Meanwhile, the PDP faces internal turmoil as Nyesom Wike’s camp sets strict reconciliation terms. Spokesman Haruna Mohammed stated, “We are open for reconciliation but we have conditions that are non-negotiable. And each group is expected to come to the negotiation table with their terms and conditions.”
Despite these crises, PDP leaders like Sule Lamido are urging members to unite. they maintain the party must prioritize survival to remain the primary threat to the APC.
