NCAA Orders Urgent Talks With Air Peace over Reports of Stranded Passengers
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has summoned airline operator, Air Peace to an urgent meeting scheduled for Monday following a series of flight disruptions and complaints from passengers.
In a statement, the regulator said the action was prompted by reports from passengers on a Heathrow–Abuja flight who were allegedly diverted through Gatwick–Lagos–Abuja and subsequently left stranded in Lagos.
The Authority noted that the incident, alongside other passenger complaints involving delayed refunds, compensation issues and lack of basic passenger care, led to the activation of its Consumer Protection Department.
According to the NCAA, it will not condone situations in which airline operators abandon passengers who have paid for travel services.
The regulator reaffirmed its support for domestic airlines but emphasised that operators must strictly comply with aviation regulations and passenger protection guidelines.
It added that a comprehensive investigation into the reported disruptions would be carried out and that appropriate regulatory measures would be taken where violations are established.
The NCAA also reiterated that, as Nigeria’s civil aviation regulator, it remains committed to safeguarding the rights and interests of all stakeholders within the aviation industry.
