Shi’ite Group Holds Peaceful Protest in Sokoto Over Iran Conflict

Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), widely recognized as the Shi’ite group, conducted a peaceful demonstration on Friday in Sokoto State, expressing concerns over the ongoing conflict in Iran.

The protesters marched through various areas of the Sokoto metropolis while security personnel closely monitored the procession to ensure order and safety. The demonstration began at the group’s designated meeting point in the city and reportedly remained calm throughout.

A security official overseeing the protest explained that the group had informed authorities in advance, allowing for the deployment of officers to maintain peace. The official stated:

“They notified us of their movement, and we deployed security agents accordingly. The protest was largely peaceful as they moved through parts of the metropolis to voice their concerns.”

This demonstration occurs amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, following military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran, which have sparked regional hostilities and caused casualties in multiple countries.

The Islamic Movement of Nigeria, a Shi’ite organisation with a notable following in northern Nigeria, has historically shown solidarity with Iran and other Shi’ite communities worldwide, reinforcing its support for affected populations during international conflicts.
