RMB Latitudes Art Fair Announces Nigeria Focus for 2026
By Rachel Akper
RMB Latitudes Art Fair has announced Nigeria as the focus country for its 2026 International Focus programme, a move aimed at spotlighting the country’s vibrant contemporary art scene and strengthening artistic collaboration across Africa.
The organisers disclosed that the initiative will feature exhibitions and engagements showcasing Nigerian artists ahead of the main art fair scheduled to take place from May 22 to May 24, 2026, in Johannesburg, South Africa.
As part of the programme, a curated exhibition highlighting works by selected Nigerian contemporary artists will open on March 26, 2026, at Yenwa Gallery in Lagos.
The exhibition is expected to serve as the first phase of the cross-continental project connecting Nigeria’s art community with the broader African creative sector.
The artworks presented in Lagos will later travel to South Africa, where they will be showcased at a Nigeria Pavilion during the RMB Latitudes Art Fair at Shepstone Gardens in Johannesburg.
Organisers said the International Focus programme is designed to highlight a different African country each year, creating opportunities for artists, galleries, curators, and collectors to engage and build lasting partnerships within the continent’s art ecosystem.
They noted that the initiative would further promote Nigerian artists on a global stage while encouraging deeper cultural exchange between West and Southern Africa.
Nigeria follows Botswana, which served as the focus country for the programme in 2025. The organisers added that the selection reflects Nigeria’s growing influence and reputation in the contemporary African art space.
