Ondo State Introduces Entertainment Tax on Social Events

The Ondo State government has reportedly introduced a new entertainment tax on social and corporate events, sparking public debate across the state.

According to widely circulated reports, event organizers will now be required to pay ₦20,000–₦25,000 for personal social events such as weddings, burials, naming ceremonies, and birthdays. Corporate or large-scale events are expected to attract a higher fee of ₦50,000.

The development has triggered reactions on social media, with many residents expressing concerns over the potential financial burden on families and event organizers. Some have questioned the legality and enforcement of the tax, urging the government to provide clarity.

As of now, official confirmation from the Ondo State government or the Internal Revenue Service is yet to be released, and major news outlets have not published any statements verifying the new tax policy.

Analysts note that social media posts and flyers circulating online may not necessarily reflect a formally enacted law.

Residents and stakeholders are advised to await an official statement from the government for clarification on the tax's implementation, scope, and enforcement procedures.
