Tinubu Seeks House Approval for 2026 FCT Budget

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked the House of Representatives of Nigeria to approve the proposed 2026 budget for the Federal Capital Territory Administration, aimed at accelerating development across Abuja.

The request was conveyed in a letter sent to the lawmakers and read during plenary by the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas. In the letter, President Tinubu urged the lawmakers to give the budget proposal speedy consideration to ensure continued development in the Federal Capital Territory.

According to the president, the proposed budget is designed to support key sectors and ongoing projects within the territory. He explained that the spending plan aligns with the federal government’s broader fiscal policy and development priorities.

Tinubu noted that the budget will focus on critical areas such as infrastructure development, healthcare, education, agriculture, job creation, youth empowerment, and social welfare programmes.

These initiatives, he said, are intended to improve the quality of life for residents of the nation’s capital and its satellite towns.

The president further emphasized that prompt approval of the budget by the lawmakers would enable the Federal Capital Territory Administration to continue implementing development projects and delivering essential services across Abuja.

The House of Representatives is expected to review the proposal and deliberate on the appropriation in the coming weeks before granting final approval.

The Federal Capital Territory budget, unlike state budgets, is usually submitted to the National Assembly for approval because the territory is administered directly by the federal government.
