IGP Disu Vows to Reclaim Communities Seized by Bandits

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has pledged that security agencies will reclaim communities taken over by bandits in Kwara State and other parts of the country.

Disu gave the assurance during a visit to the Nigeria Police Force command headquarters in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, where he addressed officers and security stakeholders on the need to intensify operations against criminal elements.

The police chief said no community in Nigeria would be allowed to remain under the control of bandits or other criminal groups, stressing that the police and other security agencies were determined to restore peace and normalcy in affected areas.

According to him, security operatives will strengthen intelligence gathering, increase patrols, and deploy additional resources to reclaim territories where residents have been displaced by armed groups.

Disu also urged officers to remain professional and committed in carrying out their duties, noting that the safety of citizens remains the top priority of the police.

He called on residents to support security agencies by providing credible and timely information that could help in identifying criminal hideouts and preventing attacks.

The IGP cautioned against ethnic profiling while addressing insecurity, emphasizing that crime should not be attributed to any particular ethnic group.

He added that many law-abiding citizens from different communities have been cooperating with law enforcement agencies in the fight against banditry.

In recent months, some rural communities in parts of Kwara State have reported attacks by armed groups, leading to concerns among residents and calls for stronger security presence.

Disu’s visit forms part of ongoing efforts by the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen security operations and reassure citizens that authorities are working to end banditry and restore stability across affected regions of the country.
