ICPC Debunks False Reports of Justice Omotosho’s Arrest

The ICPC has officially debunked viral social media videos claiming the arrest of Federal High Court Judge, Justice James Omotosho.
The commission labeled the footage entirely false and misleading to the public.
In a statement released Tuesday, spokesperson John Odey clarified that the agency has neither arrested nor invited the Abuja-based judge. There is currently no investigation involving him despite the claims made online.
The anti-graft agency expressed concern over the spread of misinformation intended to cause public anxiety. They urged Nigerians to disregard the video and avoid sharing unverified content that damages reputations.
The commission further explained that it lacks the statutory mandate to investigate serving judicial officers. This legal distinction ensures that the agency operates strictly within its designated anti-corruption boundaries.
The ICPC reaffirmed its high regard for Justice Omotosho and the entire Nigerian judiciary. This stance aims to reassure the public of the commission’s commitment to professional integrity and the rule of law.
This clarification follows a separate recent invitation of Chief Judge John Tsoho by the Code of Conduct Bureau. However, the ICPC maintained its operations remain distinct and governed by official protocols.
Finally, the agency advised the public to rely only on official communication channels for accurate news. They encouraged citizens to verify facts before sharing social media reports to curb the influence of fake news.
